TOPEKA (KSNT) - It's not everyday a local high school football play makes it on SportsCenter, but Friday night wasn't any ordinary day!
One of the key plays in Washburn Rural's 27-15 win against Dodge City in the opening round of the Class 6A playoffs happened in the first quarter. Quarterback Jordan White broke EIGHT tackles en route to a 67-yard touchdown run to give the Junior Blues a 6-0 lead.
The play was put on social media with the hashtag #SCtop10. Shortly after, the ESPN assignment desk called KSNT Sports and asked for permission to air the clip during SportsCenter's 'Top 10' plays of the night.
Washburn Rural and Jordan White landed at No. 3 on the list. ESPN anchor Jonathan Coachman, born in McPherson, KS, gave multiple shout-outs to high school football in the state of Kansas, and his former place of employment, KAKE News in Wichita.
The No. 2 play on Friday night's 'Top 10' was from the Wichita West at Junction City game, also shot by KSNT Sports. Nijah Metcalf of Wichita West broke several tackles before returning a punt for a touchdown against the Blue Jays.
Most importantly, both Washburn Rural and Junction City won their games and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
