Principal Arrested for Theft

Principal Arrested for Theft

Kelli Stegeman

When officials arrived at Mission Valley High School near Eskridge to investigate a theft, it could have been a student.

Instead, it was their principal.

Not many details are known at this point because it's a personnel issue which is subject to confidentiality and privacy.

What is known is that there is a video involved which could be pivotal to the investigation.

Even so, this is not the first time in the past year there have been reports of stealing at the school.

“We've had instances of money being stolen in the past,” said Mission Valley USD 330 Superintendent Jim Markos.

Whether it is the principal, 47 year-old Kimberlee Anderson, or not isn't yet known, but for this instance, she has been suspended.

“We have to do it with pay until the board takes proper action and she has the right to go through the legal end of it as far as what her rights are as district employee,” Markos said.

Officials say Anderson was arrested after they investigated the theft from a teacher’s office.

Board members want her out.

“The board of education decided last Monday night to give their intent to terminate her contract,” Markos said. “Effective after a 15-day period where she has the opportunity to ask for a hearing with the board of education and with appropriate legal council in her defense.”

The board has not been given any info as of yet to any request of a hearing from Anderson.

The Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation and they were out of the office all day.

The County Attorney did not return our calls and we knocked on Ms. Anderson’s door with no response.

Anderson lives in Topeka.

This is her second year as principal at Mission Valley.

She was previously a middle school principal in Newton.
