Funeral Protest Law Wins First Round Approval
A bill re-instating a state law that restricts protests at funerals won first round approval in the Kansas House of Representatives.
A law passed last year says protestors can't be within 150 feet of a funeral one hour before, during, or two hours after the service ends. But the law was never enforced because one provision said it would not take effect until the Kansas Supreme Court or a federal court upheld the law. The Kansas Supreme Court ruled two weeks ago that the "trigger" itself is unconstitutional and nullified most of the law. A final vote on the bill is expected tomorrow. |
