Universities seek tuition increases

Officials at the state's six universities
are proposing to raise tuition this fall by as much as 7.4 percent.
The charges would generate at least $22 million in revenue over
the next academic year. The universities would use the money for
faculty increases and to sustain ongoing programs.
The plans were presented Thursday to the Kansas Board of
Regents, who will vote on the proposals next month.
Tuition increases would vary by institution. Kansas State
University is proposing a 7.4 percent increase for some juniors and
seniors. For the first time, Kansas State is proposing to charge
juniors and seniors more than freshmen and sophomores.
Some Kansas State students at the Salina campus would see no
increase.
