Deployed Parents See Children GraduateKelli Stegeman
For those graduating, it may be one of the biggest days of their lives.
One they want to share with their family, but for some it may be harder than most. At Manhattan High School there were 8 graduates with military parents overseas. All but one got to see their child walk across the stage for a diploma. Most got to come back to witness firsthand and one father got to watch the ceremony via satellite, thanks to Fort Riley. The students say their military parent has missed out on some smaller special moments, but it means a lot for them to be there for a big one. “He’s been in Iraq since September 4, so he hasn't really been around for anything this year and he just came home on Wednesday and so it’s very exciting, I'm very happy,” said Lindsey Yearout. Some students graduating at Junction City High School also got the chance to either speak to or be with their deployed parent on their graduation day. |
