Manhattan Town Center Helps Storm Victims

The mall in Manhattan is doing something special for tornado victims whose homes were either severely damaged or completely destroyed last week.

Storm victims are streaming into Manhattan Town Center.

“We are donating a $250 dollar gift card per household to anyone who was listed on the Riley County Appraiser's list that was printed up in the Mercury on Monday,” said Jocelyn Umberger.

It’s a gift from the mall to help the residents of the eighty seven households get back on their feet.

“One lady told us she was going to go buy some running shoes because her shoes got completely ruined cleaning up after the tornado happened,” said Umberger.

“I’m going to buy my wife a gift!” said Josh Maynard, storm victim.

Manhattan Town Center is giving away around twenty two thousand dollars total in mall gift cards, hoping people can use the money to piece their lives back together.

“Something nice in the middle of a lot going on, ya know, in the middle of getting moved and preparing our house and all that stuff,” said Maynard.

Mall officials said about twenty people have picked up the cards so far, which enables them to purchase all sorts of things.

“Everything from shoes to linens to bath towels, all those little things people take for granted,” said Umberger.

People on the list just need to bring a valid I.D. and visit the mall during business hours to pick up a gift card.

Manhattan town center is also accepting donations on behalf of the American Red Cross at the Customer Service Center in the mall.
