Local small businesses honored at award ceremony

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - People are making small business a priority in Topeka and some are being honored for their accomplishments.

Tuesday was the 38th Annual Small Business Awards.

Keynote Speaker Brent Boles didn't only leave with a speech under his belt but an award of his own.

During his speech, he talked about his experience with small businesses growing up.

He said he watched the way Taco Villa ran their business and their practices have stuck with him to this day.

"They had fun working there, they had fun, but they also knew it was serious, when it came to delivering the food and being consistent, they knew Gary and  Jay required that, and we witnessed that and we didn't know what we were learning at the time but we were learning."

Brent and his company Schendel Lawn and Landcape went home with the Capital City Business of Distinction Award.

KSNT is a proud sponsor of the awards.
