Local woman advances on The Voice

TOPEKA, Kan. - Topeka native Kyla Jade is moving on to the next round of NBC's hit show, The Voice.

Family and friends packed into CryoX in Southwest Topeka Monday night to cheer Jade on as she performed "How Great Thou Art."

Olivia Howard, Jade's mother, said she was filled with joy after watching her performance.

"I was so excited about her performance tonight," said Howard. "I thought she did a really great job and I was a little nervous because it was such a traditional song, but she made it her own and I thought it was great."

Jade has grown a strong fan-base in the area, including Topeka woman Laurie Neff.

"I'm super excited to be supporting her, really kind of rallying the people together to support her and just cheer her along," said Neff, "She's awesome!"

Jade is one of four people who advanced to the round of 12. She will not perform either Tuesday or Wednesday night because she has already been marked safe.
