Woman crashes into Topeka home after dropping cigarette while driving

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - No injuries were reported after an SUV crashed into a southeast Topeka home.

The incident was reported just after 1:00 p.m. in the 400 block of SE 37th Street, a few blocks east of Kansas Ave.

Topeka Police said a woman driving the SUV dropped her cigarette which caused her to take her eyes off the road and drive into the house.

KSNT News' Vanessa Alonso talked to Manuel Pena who was at home with his family at the time of the impact.

"All I heard is like a big bang. So I look out the window because I obviously could tell it was a crash. So I look out the window and I see is a jeep flying into our house. About two seconds after that, the car just crashes into the house and I went looking for my mom and sister."

Thankfully everyone was on the other side of the house when the SUV crashed into the home.

There was lots of damage inside the home. The family said they do have insurance to cover the costs
