The Riley County Police Department received a 911 emergency call from 49-year old Howard Barrett of Leonardville, Kansas around 10:30 Thursday morning.

Barrett told police that he needed an ambulance sent to his apartment and said that he had hurt someone.

Officers found the body of 48-year old Thomas James of Clay Center, Kansas dead inside the apartment.

Barrett was taken from the apartment and transported to the Riley County Police Department for questioning. Barrett was later arrested for second degree murder and bond has been set at $50,000.00.

The case is currently under investigation by the Riley County Police Department.
