Archbishop Critical of GovernorTOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - The Roman Catholic archbishop for northeast Kansas says Gov. Kathleen Sebelius should refrain from taking Communion. Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann, of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, said Sebelius shouldn't participate in the sacrament until she repudiates her past support for abortion rights. Naumann made his statements in a column for Friday's edition of the archdiocese's newspaper, The Leaven. He said Sebelius' actions sent a "spiritually lethal message." He cited her recent veto of a bill imposing new restrictions on abortion providers. Sebelius is Catholic but a consistent supporter of abortion rights. Spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran said the governor hasn't seen the column. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
