Employee Chases Robber

Employee Chases Robber

Kelli Stegeman

When a robber entered ExpertTire Wednesday evening, took money, then fled, one employee tried to chase him down.

“I just gone done working on a car and was talking to another worker, we were in the second bay, and about that time a black gentleman ran by us and our store manager came out the door almost right behind him and said we just got robbed,” said ExpertTire worker Mike, who wishes for his last name to remain anonymous.

With his adrenaline pumping, Mike ran after the suspect who had already run around the fence separating the shop from a nearby apartment complex.

Thinking he could cut him off, Mike started to climb the fence.

“About that time he turned, as he was running he pointed at me and fired the gun,” Mike said. “I dropped down to the ground and that was about it. And then after that I realized I wasn’t done and got up and was running again to try to figure out where he was going, if he was getting in a car.”

Instinct carried his actions.

“I'd do it again, just out of instinct, I mean they tell you not to do it and everybody says you shouldn't chase them but nobody knows until you actually are put in the situation and you just go by instinct,” said Mike.

He says Wednesday was a busy day, there were customers waiting in the lobby and he never expected the robbery.

Neither did Dana Gise, who lives nearby, and says she is thankful she wasn't outside when it happened.

“It makes me where I don't even want to be outside or take the kids outside, I baby-sit and it scares me to take the kids outside,” Gise said. “It’s real shocking.”
