Yesterday's hail storm is making car dealerships and body shops in Manhattan busier than usual.

The storm caused serious, and very expensive, damage to a lot of cars out by the Manhattan Regional Airport.

Softball size hail just smashed car windshields, and a lot of the people said some said the damage was so great, it was not even worth fixing.

“By the time the storm hit, our entire inventory was demolished,” said Scott Teenor of Brigg’s Auto.

Brigg's Auto said softball size hail damaged more than 80 percent of the cars in their parking lot.

Teenor said, “There's a good chance about half the vehicles will be totaled.”

And, if that's the case, Brigg's Auto could be dealing with one hundred cars out of commission.

The most common damages are busted windshields and large dents on the hood of vehicles.

Alan Clark Body Shop has a lot full of cars with similar damage.

“I think we've got close to twenty cars damaged, and most of these behind me are going to total out, they won't repair them,” said Don Howard.

Repairing the glass in the main issue.

“I’ve written several estimates that were between $1000 and $2000 for some of the lighter jobs,” said Howard.

And it's hard for body shops to find time to fix hail damage when they are also dealing with collision repair.

But Briggs Auto has a plan.

“We've got five or six buyers out across the United States lined up to replenish our supply of cars, and then once we get the adjustments on the used ones well make the decision whether to wholesale them, total them, or offer them up for sale to the public,” said Teenor.

Briggs Auto said even though this is a busy time for them, the adjustments should be made within the next day or so and they expect to have their lot filled up again by the end of the week.

Alan Clark Body Shop gave similar advice.

They said the best thing to do if your car was damaged is just to be patient, file with insurance, and just know it will take about a week and a half to repair the cars in their lot.
