A Step Back In Time

Rising gas prices have hay farmers in Eskridge doing things the old fashioned way.

Jim Thompson and Collin Zirkle and a team of others are using horses instead of machines to rake up hay this season. Thompson and Zirkle came up with the idea while talking one day. They're using three teams of draft horses and some quarter horses to keep the teams fresh. Thompson says though it takes a little more time to rake the hay with horses, it's saving them roughly 1,500 hundred dollars in fuel costs.

Channel 27 videographer Ryan Schuetz spent some time on the farm Wednesday afternoon to give you a look at the operation.
