The Show Must Go On...By: Graham Winch
The opera house has a been a source of pride for junction city for more than a hundred years, and 27 News Reporter Graham Winch will show us why the city will boast about their venue for years to come.
Workers are putting the final touches on the C.L. Hoover Opera House. Renovations began in 2004, and it has taken 6 million dollars to revamp the historical building. But now its race to get it done before the grand opening. Opera House Manager Tony Ballard said, "It appears we are going to be able to get everything done. We have had several delays in this project. Originally the first opening was supposed to happen in February. So we have been putting it for months, and months and months.” The theater seats 423 people, and on grand opening night October 3rd there won't be an empty seat in the house. Ballard said, "We are going to have our grand opening the third, fourth and fifth of October. We will start with our first division band out Fort Reilly. So that will be nice to feature something local. Then we are going to have a vaudeville show out of Lawrence on the fourth. Then finish with Wamego Sweet Adelines on the fifth.” Opening weekend will be a celebration, but the pride for the old building will last for generations to come. Ballard said, "One of these the things this stands for is being able to overcome adversity. You know being the home of the fire department originally then burning down, and being rebuilt so quickly. Its something the community has always supported, and historically there have been some strong feelings for it". And now it's a building the whole community can brag about. Tickets are still available for some of the events opening weekend. If you are interested You can find out more information by calling 785-238-3103. |
