Voting On The Bailout Plan

Voting On The Bailout Plan

By: Graham Winch

Dennis Moore released a statement today explaining why he voted in favor of the bill....

Moore's statement reads, "I voted for this bipartisan compromise because it took the necessary steps to protect American taxpayers, including a recoupment provision to ensure that every dime of taxpayer money is paid back in full."

At the end of his statement Moore states, “We must put aside our differences and do what is in the best interest of our country. We owe the American people no less.”

But not everyone agrees with Moore.

Fellow Democratic Representative Nancy Boyda from Topeka voted against the bill.
So did republican representative Todd Tiahrt from Wichita.
Along with Republican Jerry Moran from western Kansas...
27 News spoke with Representative Boyda on the phone today.
She says she couldn't vote for the bailout plan, because she doesn't know if it will work.

Boyda said, "Over the weekend. I had the opportunity to talk to four economists in very small groups. Where I could sit and ask any question I wanted, and really pick there brains. Every time I would say do you think this is going to work. They would actually just look away, and then look back and say you know we don't know. I said I am not asking for a guarantee. I am just asking do you think it will work, and not one of them would say yes or no. They said we don't know."
Boyda says she wants to explore other options for securing the economy before she commits to this plan.

27 News tried to contact our other representatives, but they were unavailable to make comments.

Congress will not meet until Thursday to honor the Jewish New Year.
