Roberts To Oppose Financial Bailout Plan
Sen. Pat Roberts will vote against a revised bill to rescue the nation's financial industry.
A spokeswoman for the Kansas Republican says Roberts will oppose the $700 billion measure because he believes the bill remains flawed and does not do enough to protect taxpayers. The Senate is expected to vote Wednesday night. Kansas Republican Sen. Sam Brownback has not yet said how he will vote. The bill now includes tax breaks and a provision to exempt more than 20 million middle-class Americans from the alternative minimum tax. The Senate version of the bill also would increase government's cap on insured bank deposits from $100,000 to $250,000. |
