VP Watch Party at WashburnAmy Wolf
All eyes at Washburn University's debate party were on Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, as she and Senator Joe Biden of Delaware took the stage at this year's first and only vice presidential debate.
It was Washburn's second debate watching party of the election season. About 75 people came to watch the two candidates duke it out, and as the country has been buzzing about John McCain's pick for vice president - Governor Palin of Alaska - emotions among students who came to the debate party were mixed as they waited for the debate to begin. "If you take a look at her record, she has a real record of leadership and reform, that she brings a lot to the ticket she's a very formidable politician, she knows how to get things done, she has a lot of common sense," said Washburn junior Angel Romero, who supports the McCain ticket. Other students did not look upon Palin so favorably. "I'd like to see Biden do well and not to make Palin look too bad during the debate. Palin....my prediction is that she will probably not do so well," said Washburn freshman Brandi Gannon, who supports the Obama ticket. At each Washburn debate watching party, visitors are asked to fill out surveys about how they thought the candidates performed, and they're planning on sharing those results once they get them compiled. |
