This new home on NW Landon looks like many houses in the area. Except this one is a certified energy star house. It has specially insulated windows, insulated heating vents and a high efficiency water heater. Along with bells and whistles like a touch screen that controls lights, security system and even a built in stereo.

But even with all the expensive extras and a tanking economy. Builder Russ King said buyers are still interested.

“We've scaled back our operation. We only do two at a time right now, we don't get too far out there. We've seen a lot of increased traffic, people are thinking about it and looking at it, but I think they're still a little gun-shy about buying a home, but they're definitely out there looking,” King said.

Topeka realtor Deb McFarland is listing the home on NW Landon. She said people with good credit scores should be able to secure a good loan. She also said that with low interest rates, this is a good time to buy a home in Topeka.
