Autopsy results on the human remains found in Riley County Sunday afteroon could come as soon as Thursday.Lieutenant Herb Crosby with the Riley County Police Department said that it is standard procedure for bodies to be autopsied in Shawnee County.
The remains of an adult female and a male child approximately 3-years-old were discovered in a field east of Ogden buried in a shallow grave.
Crosby said the case is being investigated as a criminal case right now, until they can prove otherwise.
Police are still working to identify the victims and may turn to the public for help.
“If we can identify those individuals then we would release that information to the public,” Crosby said. “That way someone might know if it's Bobby or Johnny or Susie or whoever then they might say, oh yeah, they have been missing for quite some time.”
He said there are no reported missing persons who fit the victim's descriptions in either Riley or Geary county.
Anyone who might know a missing woman and small boy are urged to call the Riley County Police Department's criminal investigations division at (785) 537-2112 x2470.
