Starting today, getting married, filing a lawsuit, and going to court for a traffic ticket in Kansas will cost you more.

A $10 surcharge on most fees imposed by the state's court system took effect today.

A marriage license will now cost $69. Filing a lawsuit in district court goes up to $166. And court costs in traffic cases is now up to $86.

The surcharge was put in place to close a budget gap in the court system.  It will stay in effect until June of next year.
