Actor Karl Malden is being remembered in Emporia for ties he had to the city and Emporia State University. Malden died on Wednesday at the age of 97.
Malden's wife, Mona, was from Emporia and attended Kansas State Teacher's College which is now Emporia State University.
In 1959, Malden visited the campus with his wife and returned in 1964 to teach actors at the Summer Theater Company.
The universtiy awarded Malden an "honorary doctor of fine arts degree" in 1985. A theater scholarship in his name is still awarded each year at ESU.
