About 500 members of the media are in Oklahoma City for the NCAA Tournament. 27 News Anchor Mitch Weber gives you a behind the scenes look at the media area.
The media work area is right near the court. The hundreds of media are made up of reporters and photographers from all over the United States.
Big 12 Director of Communications, Rob Carolla started preparations for this event almost a year ago. Rob Carolla/Big 12 Director of Communications says, "It was a storage room, it had a lot of chairs, and things of that nature stored in it. and we were able to clear all that out. and to dress it up enough to make it workable for the media."
The NCAA requires each site to have at least one dress rehearsal in the chosen facility. Rob Carolla/Big 12 Director of Communications says, "We had a dress rehearsal back in December. where we had OK and OKState.. to make sure they meet NCAA specifications."
Our workstations are directly behind the area where players and coaches talk to the media before and after the games. There are two cameras setup, where we get a direct video feed we record and can use in our coverage.
Rob Carolla/Big 12 Director of Communications says, "We have volunteers in communications and media relations, we have volunteers that work with the city, with each of the teams, to make their experience as comfortable as possible."
