Chances are you've seen Ken Ferrell’s weather photos right here on 27 News. Now, some of them are on display in eateries across Northeast Kansas. He’s passionate about capturing nature and landscapes. He shoots nearly every day.
“I usually keep my cameras right by the door, my tripod there, everything I need to just jump outside,” the 80 year old said.
That's a typical day for the Meriden man. He's retired after decades of working in engineering and living around the world. He spends his days now taking, enhancing, and framing photographs.
Ferrell got his start as a shutterbug nearly 30 years ago. It all started on a hike near Palm Springs, CA when he saw a unique tree.
“Other people were just stepping over it and I saw it and stopped and took a lot of photos,” Ferrell said.
These days, much of Ferrell's inspiration comes from right outside his front door.
“I mean, this is beautiful. I can just walk out in the field here and I can get about 180 degree view.”
Ferrell does use Adobe Photoshop and sends some of his images away to be turned into posters.
Some of his images are currently on display at the following locations:
New Break Café in Americus, Linden Place in Valley Falls, Sunflower Café in Meriden and the Rowhouse Restaurant in downtown Topeka.
