Emporia police say a man and the woman suspected of killing him had a violent relationship.
The suspect, Deanna Meece, was charged Tuesday with intentional second-degree murder in the death of Ricky Nurnberg. His body was found last week at the couple's apartment. Meece's bond has been set at $250,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 17. Court records indicate Meece and Nurnberg argued for several hours before Nurnberg's death. The records show Nurnberg essentially impaled himself on a butter knife during the argument.
Nurnberg had been cited for domestic battery on Meece in early December. And the two were each cited for domestic violence on each other in April.
Nurnberg's death was Emporia's first murder since October 2005.
