A few customers gathered outside before the new annex opened its doors but the wait was nothing compared to the hours many say they've spent in line at the downtown Treasurer's Office.
"I waited to come here today because I have a three-year-old and I didn't want to sit in line for three hours," Topeka resident Mona Arnold said.
There was a little confusion about who the actual "first customer" was but, all in all, people were very happy they did not have to wait in line.
"Every time I planned on going downtown I would look at the hallway camera and it would be crowded so um as soon as I found out that the annex opened I came down and I got my tags," Arnold said.
Office manager Linda lee said she thinks this location will also work on getting a similar camera setup that can be viewed on the internet.
"It's supposed to have a way of looking at the downtown to see how busy it is and also here," Lee said.
Lee said the first day always comes with a few adjustments but she said everything was going smoothly.
"We're excited! It's gonna be the best annex there is!" Lee said.
When asked about the $2 fee that comes with using this location, the consensus was that it was well worth it.
"I'd pay ten dollars at this point," said Michael Anthony.
Anthony was this morning's second customer. He said he arrived at about 7:15 a.m.
"It's it's all about the convenience everything everything you got to pay for convenience. So I mean a dollar more is not gonna hurt," Anthony said.
"I got it...My tag! Yes!" Applehanz exclaimed.
The first customer, June Appelhanz, was excited as she headed to the exit.
As of noon today the annex served fewer than 30 people. Employees say this amount is not unusual for the first of the month.
