Topeka Business Hall of Fame dinner

The 2012 Topeka Business Hall of Fame event is Thursday, March 1 in the Regency Ballroom of the Topeka Ramada Inn. The event, sponsored by Junior Achievement of Kansas, honors local business leaders who have made big contributions to Topeka.

This year's Laureates include Dr. Robert Cotton (Cotton-O'Neil); Dr. Robert O'Neil (Cotton-O'Neil); Bruce and Mike McPherson (McPherson Contractors); Mark Heitz (Aviva) and Arthur C. Capper will also be posthumously honored.

Tables seat 10 people and are available for $1,500 each. Individual tickets are available for $150. You can call about tickets at 235-3700. All money raised goes back to support Junior Achievement programs throughout northeast Kansas.

Topeka council delays utility rate vote
If the council eventually chooses to approve the utility increases, water and sewer rates will increase by 3 and 4 percent, respectively, each year until 2015. Stormwater rates will increase at an average of about 5.5 percent for the next three years.
