A sun-drenched day greeted those who attended the first ever Veterans Day parade in Wakefield Wednesday morning.

Hundreds were on hand to watch the parade which included World War II veterans Russell Jevons and Laurence Conrow who were chauffeured by a soldier from Fort Riley.  The parade was organized by the Republican Valley VFW Memorial Post 7774.  Also included in the celebration were students from Wakefield Elementary school who had the morning away from school to show their support for those who served our country.  And no parade would be complete with out a marching band.  The Wakefield school marching band provided music for the event and at the veterans ceremony later in the morning at the football field.

A tip of the hat goes to Marion “Ross” Kirk, the driving force behind organizing Wakefield’s first-ever Veterans Day Parade!
