Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain are each pushing their own ideas to increase U.S. energy efficiency and decrease dependence on foreign oil.

Last week, McCain proposed lifting the federal ban on offshore drilling, which Obama opposes.

On CNN’s American Morning, Republican Senator Sam Brownback said he thinks McCain’s plan should work. He says, “It is going to lower gas prices. It may not mean immediately although I think it will have an immediate effect.” He adds, “I think the reason were discussing this is we have to increase supply and this is a key place and way we can do this and I think we need to do it.”

Obama says offshore drilling would not have an immediate impact on gas prices.
