A New Tool to Monitor Your Kids Online

Kia Carter

A Junction City man has created a program to let parents see exactly what their kids are doing on the internet, including what they write.

Jacqueline Kennedy is a mom with one less worry. She's got a program installed on her kids’ computers to let her know exactly what they're doing.

"They're not even aware of it because it's not something they can detect. The only way they know is if you tell them and you say, look this is where you were and this is not a site you need to be on," says Kennedy, of Junction City.

Steven Watkins created the program called u see it. He did it after working with schools and foster children and seeing what could happen.

"I saw lots of different things going on in the classroom. Lots of kids having issues or going to sites in the back of the room when the teachers were unaware of it," says Watkins.

USeeIt is a free program you can download on any computer.

"I kept it really simple for people who don't understand a lot about computers. It records every key you press, so if you're on a MySpace chat room or Yahoo chat room, it's recording what you press," says Watkins.

"The information comes directly to my email address so I don't have to go to their computers I can go in my bedroom and look at all the information, everywhere they've been, and mostly their on MySpace," says Kennedy.

Steven says he created to it to help parents prevent a tragedy.

"Some parents found a lot of things they didn't expect to find that their children were involved in, that could have gotten them into a lot of trouble. Some could have even made their parents lose their businesses because of the results they found out were going on, but they had a chance to correct that," says Watkins.

And Jacqueline says get a little more piece of mind.

Steven Watkins meets with Junction City Commissioners January 25th in an effort to get the program to schools, parents and law enforcement. To find out how to put the USeeIt program on your home computer visit our website and click on 27 Newslinks.
