Emporia Playground Breaks Ground
Construction on a new playground in Emporia is in full swing.
Hundreds of workers gathered on Wednesday to help hammer nails and cut wood for Peter Pan Park. Dozens of area middle school children were also on hand to help. The new playground will be equipped with swing sets and slides but also a climbing wall. Project coordinator Robin Nelson says she's happy with all the help they've received so far, but could always use more volunteers. Nelson says, “It's been four years in the making and it kind of fell apart as a class project, but some people kept with it and other community members went in and since February it’s really taken off. Llots of volunteers and equipment and people have donated food and it's just amazing.” The playground committee still needs volunteers to fill daytime slots. If you are interested, meet at the sign-up table next to the construction. The park will be complete by Sunday. |
