Ethanol DefenseWASHINGTON (AP) - Farmers and ethanol producers are defending their good fortune against federal lawmakers who say that ethanol production is causing food prices to soar. Farmers and ethanol executives told reporters in Washington today that the biofuel industry is not the culprit behind skyrocketing corn and wheat prices that have caused riots abroad and grocery sticker shock in America. National Corn Growers Association President acknowledges that ethanol production does have some role in higher corn prices but said it was minimal. Ethanol production has grown into a sizable industry in many states, including Kansas. |
