Ethanol Defense

WASHINGTON (AP) - Farmers and ethanol producers are defending
their good fortune against federal lawmakers who say that ethanol
production is causing food prices to soar.
Farmers and ethanol executives told reporters in Washington
today that the biofuel industry is not the culprit behind
skyrocketing corn and wheat prices that have caused riots abroad
and grocery sticker shock in America.
National Corn Growers Association President acknowledges that
ethanol production does have some role in higher corn prices but
said it was minimal.
Ethanol production has grown into a sizable industry in many
states, including Kansas.
