Dogs SeizedFRANKFORT, Kan. (AP) - The Kansas Animal Health Department has seized 187 dogs from an unlicensed Marshall County retail breeder facility. The department announced the seizure Friday, a week after it took the dogs from a breeder facility owned and operated by John Huninghake, of Frankfort. Department officials say an inspection revealed living condition that "endangered the dogs' health, safety and welfare." Officials said they found severely underweight dogs, some to the point of emaciation, in an environment infested with swarms of flies and several large maggot populations. The department said Huninghake relinquished ownership of the dogs on Thursday, rather than contest their seizure. The animals are now eligible for adoption at licensed facilities. |
