Topeka Police Officer recovering after crash

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - A Topeka Police Officer is said to be alright and a woman is dead after a crash in west Topeka. 29-year-old Tourquise Moniece Abercrombie" was killed in a crash in west Topeka early Sunday morning. The Kansas Highway Patrol says Abercrombie was driving without headlights when she ran a stop sign, crashing into a Topeka police car driven by Officer Laura Mayer. According to the KHP crash report Abercrombie was not wearing a seat belt. The crash concerned one neighbor who heard it happen.

"My first reaction was to run and help and I started running and I saw cop coming down our street on Webster probably a minute after the crash he was really fast," Andrew Cook, a person who lives near the crash said.

Officer Mayer was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries but she has since been released. It is not known if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
