KU's Talib Drafted by Tampa Bay with 20th Pick
NEW YORK (AP) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have gone for a
defensive back with the 20th pick in the NFL Draft, taking corner Aqib Talib of Kansas. Talib played both sides of the ball for the Jayhawks last year, grabbing eight passes for 182 yards and four touchdowns. He also finished with 66 tackles, 18 pass breakups and five interceptions. He scored twice on pickoffs while averaging almost 40 yards on his interception returns. Talib started 10 games as a sophomore in 2006, ending up with 42 tackles, 22 breakups and six picks. He led the nation with 2.8 passes defended per game and paced the Big 12 in interceptions. Talib was highly productive for the Jayhawks before leaving the team a year early. He has long arms and excellent size at nearly 6-foot-1 and 202 pounds. He has great instincts and field awareness while showing an ability to jump routes. He has nice speed while moving in reverse and possesses great hands. |
