7/15/08 KU Football Coach Mark Mangino Receives Extension

Extension Runs Through 2012 Season

Following the most successful season in program history, The University of Kansas is rewarding head football coach Mark Mangino with a solid pay raise and contract extension. The new deal will keep Mangino in Lawrence through the 2012 season.
Mangino will receive $2.3 million annually, around half a million more than he's currently making. There are incentives that could raise that total even higher.
Mangino's current deal was set to expire after the 2010 season.
KU finished the 2007 season 12-1 and captured the school's first ever BCS bowl win by defeating Virginia Tech 24-21 in the Orange Bowl. The consensus National Coach of the Year in 2007 is entering his 7th season. His 37 wins rank 4th all-time at KU.
The bulk of Mangino's salary, 1.7 million, comes through professional services such as tv and radio show obligations and product endorsements.
Should Mangino stay all five years of his contract, he will earn the retention payment of about $300,000 per year.
The biggest incentive is an additional $225,000 should the Jayhawks win a national championship.
