Charges filed against Kansas lawmaker accused of battery on student

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Prosecutors have charged Rep. Mark Samsel, R-Wellsville, with three counts of misdemeanor battery for an incident that happened at Wellsville High School last month.

Samsel was arrested after the incident, which occurred while he was serving as a substitute teacher.

Samsel told KSNT News the incident was staged. The lawmaker will be in court for a first appearance on Wednesday.
