Clear the Shelters

Multiple animal shelters across NE Kansas participating in Clear the Shelters

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - Multiple animal shelters across northeast Kansas will be participating in the national pet adoption event, Clear the Shelters on August 18.

On that day pet adoption fees at Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka will be lowered to $50 for all dogs and $10 for all cats. Potential adopters are encouraged to complete the adoption application ahead of Aug. 18. All pets available for adoption are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped.

The Heart of Jackson Humane Society in Holton is offering $10 off for dogs under 40 pounds and large dogs over 40 pounds will be $25 off the adoption fee plus anyone who completes an adoption application that day and is approved will get their dog microchipped for free which is a $25 value.

The Junction City/Geary County Animal Shelter will have $10 for cats that are already spayed and neutered and $50 for dogs that are also already spayed and neutered and will be starting it on August 4 through August 18.

The Clay County Animal Rescue & Education Center is waiving half of all adoption fees which will put all of their dogs at $75 for the day.

The Purple Power Animal Welfare Society says they will not be having any special deals on August 18. Adopters will need to apply and adopt the usual way and all adoption fees will remain the same.

Last year, more than 80,000 pets were adopted from over 900 shelters across the country. Since 2015, Clear the Shelters has helped 153,651 pets find forever homes.

So if you're thinking about taking home a new furry friend, consider heading to a local animal shelter to adopt during Clear the Shelters on Aug. 18.

KSNT is proud to be a part of the Clear the Shelters campaign.
