Wichita police said a 9-year-old boy died in a shooting Monday morning.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of East MacArthur Road at the Stonegate Mobile Home Park.

Wichita police said there were several children in the home when the boy was shot. Police said investigators remain on the scene.

“There was an 11-year-old boy, 16-year-old girl and 14-year-old girl, who were all related at the residence, along with two friends, a 16-year-old boy and the 9-year-old boy,” said officer Charley Davidson, Wichita Police Department spokesman. “They (investigators) are working in talking to the children and family to determine what happened inside the home.”

No word on who the gun belonged to or who fired the shot.

“Very tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family involved in this case,” said Davidson.
