A spokeswoman for the ALDI supermarket chain confirms that a third supermarket will be coming to Topeka. While company officials are not releasing further details at this time, the owner of JM Motorsports, John McMurray told KSNT News that he was told last month by the owner of his property just west of the Dillons north supermarket that he had ”30 days to move out because they had just sold the property to ALDI.”
JM Motorsports is located at 2320 NW Clay Street in what has become a busy shopping area in north Topeka.
McMurray said he will be moving his dealership to a temporary property nearby at 110 N.E. Highway 24 for about four months. McMurray said he is building a brand-new facility at 1336 N.W. Topeka Boulevard in north Topeka and will be breaking ground very soon.
McMurray said he was “kind of blindsided” by the sudden announcement, but said his dealership will be fine in the long run.
As for the ALDI store, a spokeswoman said the company was “excited to confirm a third store will be coming to Topeka.”
Also announced earlier today, ALDI will host a job fair for its Manhattan store on Friday, Jan. 4, from 7 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the ALDI on 140 East Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan.
The company said ALDI operates more than 1,800 stores in 35 states and is in the middle of an accelerated expansion plan to increase its store count to 2,500 and create 25,000 jobs by the end of 2022.
