Construction work continues on a major Southeast Topeka street project.
Work began on a stretch of 29th street, near Lake Shawnee, in February.                                            Crews are expanding the road to five lanes as well as replacing a bridge.
Wednesday morning, arches that will support the new bridge were being put into place.
Nearly two dozen of these will be set before any street decking is added.                                                  It’s all part of a two-year project to widen that stretch of 29th street.
The work will be done in two phases, with it all being finished at the end of next year.
After this bridge work is done, that part of 29th could be open to traffic by early next month.
