Atchison Police officer involved in shooting with resident

GAn Atchison homeowner was wounded when he was involved in a gunfight with a police officer. It happened this morning at 4th and L St . 

Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson said the officer was not injured during the confrontation Wednesday.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said an Atchison police officer responded to a call to help utility crews and a homeowner identified  as 44 year old Bryan Boldridge of Atchison  who confronted the officer with a rifle. Boldridge put the rifle down and then a verbal argument escalated, according to the KBI.

“The officer deployed a Taser toward the subject. The subject produced a handgun he had in his possession, and fired at the officer. The officer was not hit by gunfire, and returned fire at the subject. The subject was struck during the exchange,” according to a statement by the KBI.

Boldridge was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The unidentified officer is on paid administrative leave.

The KBI is investigating the shooting.
