Before you enter the gym at Washburn Rural the first thing that catches your eye is this giant mural with most of the schools accomplishments and some notable people. For senior basketball standout Carly Bachelor, she might end up on this thing one day, but for now, she’s more than just another face in the crowd.
“We all knew she’d be special, she led us in scoring her freshman year,”
Bachelor has been money since she walked on campus, but her story starts with her family.
“Both of my parents played basketball at washburn university, that’s where they met, so I definitely come from an athletic family,” Bachelor said.
From the ‘Bods to the Jr Blues, the younger Bachelor is keeping the family athletic tradition alive, she’s a three sport athlete and will be attending Creighton on a basketball scholarship next fall.
“I’m really looking forward to what can happen at the next four years there.”
These last four years have been just as special, coach Kevin Bordewick says she’s a star on and off the court
“Obviously, she’s a very talented athlete, not just in basketball, but in soccer and volleyball, but it’s her strength of character, it’s her moral, her ethics, who she is as a person has probably meant just as much if not more to our program than her playing ability”
Her skills on the court speak for them self, early this year she hit a buzzer beater against T-high at home that she said will stick with her for a long time
“That was a really special moment, I definitely wont forget that. theres not many times when you get to make the game winner so that was definitely one of my favorite moments of my basketball career,” Bachelor smirked.
She’ll have plenty of chances to make memories at Creighton, but they’ll certainly miss her at Rural.
“We’re gonna enjoy these last couple of weeks and we’re gonna play as long as we can.” Bordewick said.
