Charges have been dropped against a man connected with a shooting in Topeka in May 2018. Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay announced Thursday in a news release that a homicide charge against Justin McCoy has been dismissed.

McCoy was accused in the death of Patricia Sanders on May 13, 2018. The shooting happened at a home at 1307 SE Madison in Topeka. Police say Sanders was shot multiple times and died from her injuries.

Kagay said new evidence turned over to his office will require more investigation into the murder. He said dismissing the charges against McCoy will give his office more time to investigate.

The Topeka Police Department is handling the investigation of this case. Anyone with information related to these crimes should report that information to the police.
