The Shawnee County Commission is officially welcoming new commissioner Bill Riphahn.
Riphahn’s first day started with his swearing in ceremony. He was sworn in by Judge Mark Braun. Riphahn’s wife, Julie, was also by his side.
Riphahn jumped right into his new position this morning.
He said the county has seen some good changes made in the past, but he wants to work harder to make the county better.
“We need to look at a number of things that we have going on in the county right now and see if we can do them better.” said Riphahn. “I don’t think we ever want to be satisfied with the way we’re doing things. There’s always things that we can do better.”
He also said his work with Parks and Recreations for more than 30 years has prepared him to be successful at his new job.
But he said this won’t create a bias in voting, as he wants to be a little stern when it comes to parks and recreations proposals.
