Deer in a manhole rescued by Olathe PD

While on a walk Saturday morning, a woman said her dogs led her to a doe trapped in a manhole around 146th Street and Halsey Street in Olathe.

The Olathe Police Department said the doe was very agitated and in distress. It is estimated that it had been in the hole for a week or so.

Olathe Animal Control officer James Brackett was able to safely remove the doe and it quickly ran off into a wooded area.

“The officer is a hero to many people that day,” Nadya Di  said.

“It was one of my adopted dogs who led me to the hole in the ground on our morning walk, and there was this poor deer.”

After the officer recovered the deer, the county was contacted so the manhole cover could be fixed.
