After being held to just one run in the first two games of the series Emporia State exploded for 11 runs on 11 hits in an 11-5 win over #11 Missouri Southern on Monday to salvage the last game of the series.
The Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the second thanks to a Connor Hurst sac fly that scored Brian Grove. Ryan Krolikowski made it 3-0 Hornets in the bottom of the second when his first career hit was a no doubt, two run home run to left.
After Southern got on the board with a Ryan Hunter home run in the third, Emporia State sent 11 batters to the plate in the plate in the bottom of the third on the way to six runs. Paul Claassen had the big hit in the inning as he delivered a two run single that plated Josh Norlin and Tucker Perkins to give the Hornets an 8-1 lead. Hunter hit a three run homer in the fourth to pull the Lions within 9-4 and made it 9-5 on a Freddie Landers homer in the fifth inning.
The Hornets added two runs in the top of the eighth when Connor Hurst scored on a fielder’s choice and Krolikowski had an RBI ground out to make it 11-5.
Emporia State is back in action on Friday, April 5 when they play host to Missouri Western. First pitch from the Trusler Sports Complex is set for 5:00 p.m.
