A ruptured gas line has shut down a portion of SW 29th street in Topeka.
It happened early Friday afternoon in an area just east of 29th and Fairlawn. Dispatchers say a construction crew apparently hit a gas line. Both eastbound and westbound traffic is fully closed between 29th and Fairlawn and Prairie Road which is just east of Fairlawn Road.
Northbound and southbound traffic on Fairlawn is not affected. The gas line break is in the parking lot of Westlake Hardware. Wheatfield Village is being developed on the northwest corner of 29th and Fairlawn. It’s not sure when traffic will be re-opened.
