It’s a new year, which means people will be working on a common new year’s resolution: to get in the gym.
GreatLife WYCA in Topeka said it’s not only important to be patient, but also to have a backup plan, for those days when you forget your gym bag or when your fitness class is canceled.
They also suggest having a workout buddy to keep you on track.
“Saying that you want to lose 10 pounds by the end of the month, that’s something that’s kind of out our hands,” said Darren Falk, a fitness manager at GreatLife. “Something that’s maybe better suitable is ‘I want to work out 15 times this month’.”
Choosing how many times you workout in a time period is easier to control than how much weight you want to lose.
GreatLife also reminds us that getting into shape takes working through some challenges like being sore and going out of our comfort zones to try new types of exercise.
