Kansas is now under new leadership. Governor Laura Kelly was sworn in to office on Monday and celebrated her new position with an inaugural ball at the Expocentre.
The inaugural ball had all the makings you would expect to see from a nice dinner, to fancy dresses, to dancing. All to welcome Kansas’ newest Governor, Laura Kelly. Kelly said she’s focused on her plans for the future.
“Moving forward and making Kansas that great place again where you want to come and live like my husband and I did so many years ago,” Kelly said, “They’re looking forward to our schools being back in the number one top notch schools in the country.”
Former Governor Kathleen Sebelius was one of the people who came out to celebrate the new Governor.
She said while she’s excited for Kelly to start, even though she knows there will be challenges.
“She’s facing a Republican legislature and a lot of challenges trying to move the state forward, but I think she’s very used to that,” Sebelius said. “She’s been a minority legislator since 2004. She knows the budget inside and out, she knows this state very well.”
Kelly said she’s ready to work with both parties on issues she promised to focus during her campaign: education and healthcare.
“I am a firm believer that we’re all in this together and I wanted to start off with that message, that we are kansans and we work together and we help each other,” Kelly said.
Governor Kelly said she’ll be at the capitol bright and early tomorrow morning, ready to get to work.
